This day is a public holiday in NZ and Australia- ANZAC day .- This morning many people (just Anna & Jeremy... not me) get up early to attend the dawn ceremonies (5:45am) and lay wreathes as we remember the people who have died in conflict. There are memorials in most towns and cities where wreaths are laid. This is one of 4 days in the year when most shops are closed (for the morning only today). The city has recently developed a memorial to the unknown soldier where an unknown NZ soldier who died in Europe in the 1914-1917 conflict was brought home and buried.
